He has been digitizing his own work since the early 1990s, always striving to achieve the best possible image quality. Therefore, he has tested a wide range of flatbed and film scanners, but always took SilverFast as the best choice regarding the software component.
David Brooks has now extensively tested the CanoScan 9000F in combination with SilverFast Archive Suite. He is convinced by its batch scanning and processing workflow, which, he says, does only take half the time the conventional way would do. The Nikon CoolScan 5000 ED was launched in 2003 and has been one of the most popular film scanner since then. Especially professional photographers appreciate the superior image quality, which is even further optimized significantly by SilverFast Multi-Exposure® for increasing dynamic range.
The German FOTO DIGITAL magazine has reviewed the Nikon CoolScan 5000 ED in detail. In conclusion, the testers recommend to use SilverFast with the Nikon for a significant performance improvement: |
|
« We recommend a more powerful scan software such as "SilverFast", as the included "Nikon Scan 4.0" is out of the scanner's depth. "SilverFast" also offers the possibility to calibrate the scanner. The tools for automatic corrections are working properly and contribute to better imaging results. […] Grain can be effectively reduced by multiple scanning. The autofocus accomplishes a perfect job for accurately mounted slides and smooth film strips. »

LaserSoft Imaging offers the world's last Kodachrome targets for scanner calibration.
Kodachrome was a popular slide film produced by Kodak between 1935 and 2009. It was the first commercially successful three-color film with natural color reproduction. Kodachrome film features great sharpness, fine grain and vibrant colors. In addition, it is extremely well preserved in archives. Kodachrome is very different from other films in terms of material and developing process. This fact leads to problems when trying to scan Kodachrome film like ordinary color film. LaserSoft Imaging has produced Kodachrome targets in own production, which enable true-color digitizing of Kodachrome slides. Since 2010, there is not a single photo lab on the whole planet developing Kodachrome film. (Source: Wikipedia) This means, no new Kodachrome targets can be produced in future. |
|
Why is the calibration with a Kodachrome target important? The yellow dye in the Kodachrome emulsion is generally perceived less by a scanner than by the human eye. Thus, the human viewer captures more "yellow spectrum" from a Kodachrome image than the scanner. In return, scan results have a blue cast for the eye, if Kodachrome slides are scanned with a normal Fujichrome or Ektachrome ICC profile. With a Kodachrome Calibration Target, you get accurate color. |
|
« I started a project recently, scanning several hundred 25-year old slides of our trekking trip to Africa. The old Kodachromes and Ecktachromes show their age. […] SilverFast provides a vast range of controls that were not previously available to me, allowing solid control over every element of the scanning workflow. The results are dramatically improved. … » (Richard Jacobs)
We would like to offer our last remaining stock of Kodachrome targets for 195,- per target to our loyal customers. All targets originate from our very last production batch and when properly stored can be used for many years without a loss of quality. Get your SilverFast Kodachrome Target today by clicking on the 'BUY' button. Click 'INFO' for more information about the various SilverFast Kodachrome features. |
