Transparency mode not available

SymptomSymptom:
Suddenly, the option to switch between "Reflective" and "Transparent" scanning is no longer available.

ProblemProblem:
While starting up, SilverFast asks the scanner about its properties. If the scanner doesn't tell SilverFast it has a transparency unit, SilverFast won't show up the dropdown option to select between reflective and transparency mode on the general tab of the main dialogue.

The reason usually is that there's some issue with the cable between the transparency unit (TU) and the scanner itself.


SolutionSolution:
Please try to
  • close SilverFast
  • turn off scanner
  • disconnect the cable connecting the TU in the lid to the chassis of the scanner
  • reconnect TU cable to scanner
  • turn on scanner and wait until its self-initialisation ran through
  • start SilverFast again
  • look if option is now present

If you continue to have the problem, please consider that there may be a hardware defect with the cable or the TU itself.

You might want to cross-check if you can use the TU with the manufacturer's software programme. If this also fails, contact your dealer or scanner manufacturer.
