Example Image
The original print shows age- and storage-related defects and damage that cannot be easily “re-traced” on the paper. Digital retouching was carried out using illustrations from old sources, but not in the old-fashioned way by tracing directly on to the slide with brush and “color halftoning”, but by cautious, orthochromatic, digital restoration. This incorporates the potential to rectify a great deal of paper discoloration. The images illustrate the process. |

This image series shows how to create a colored Heliogravure using an original by Jörn Grothkopp. After the artist has manually created the color separations, the films were made in the original size of 100 cm x 50 cm. The production of the plates and the plate prints were made by the Berlin company of Willi Jesse. First proofs were produced with the artist present. These artistic prints are published by Edition Fils, Düsseldorf. The Heliogravure as a "Precious Printing Process" allows the artist to completely re-design the colors of the plates.
